Description

The F50 used a 4.7L naturally aspirated V12 developed from the 3.5L V12 that was used in the 1990 Ferrari 641 Formula 1 car. Before being used in the F50, this engine was in the Ferrari 333 SP racing in the American IMSA series for 1994.

The chassis was a carbon fiber tub with the engine and transmission unit providing structural support for the car removing the need for a sub frame. This meant the rear suspension was connected directly to the engine and gearbox unit like a Formula 1 car.

Pininfarina once again designed the look of the car with wind tunnel testing determining the overall look of the body. Lots of composites were used to construct the body of the F50 including carbon fiber, kevlar and Nomex honeycomb.
