Volkswagen have launched the new generation Polo, with the Polo GTI taking its place at the top of the range. As usual The GTI is identified by a specially designed front bumper with integrated spoiler lip and fog lights, the typical red stripe insignia on the front grille with honeycomb air vents rounded off with the GTI badging. The rear of the car is adorned with a large roof spoiler in high-gloss black, LED tail lights, GTI-specific dual tailpipes and a rear diffuser nestled in the back bumper.
Power has seen a modest bump from the 141 kW of the previous generation Polo GTI to 147 kW (197 hp) from the 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 engine. Gearbox choices include a 6-speed manual for those who prefer to row their own gears, and a 7-speed DSG transmission which prvides smooth and efficient driving. 17 inch alloy wheels are standard equipment, with optional 18 inch versions available to spec.
Dr Frank Welsch, Board Member for Development of the Volkswagen Brand: "The new Polo brings the future to the compact class. A whole lot of space - based on the modular transverse matrix - sustainable engines like a new natural gas TGI, the world premiere of a new generation of the Active Info Display, the latest infotainment systems and forward-thinking assistance systems - these qualities enable this Volkswagen to overcome traditional class boundaries."
