With a top speed of 190 mph (306 kph), the Bentley Bentayga Speed takes the crown as the fastest production SUV in the world, narrowly edging out the Lamborghini Urus. That top speed comes in at only 1 mph more than the Urus, making the claim as worlds fastest a little less special. The engine responsible for all that speed is the same engine fitted to the original Bentayga, a 6.0L W12 unit with two turbocharged bolted on. Peak power is rated at 635 PS (466 kW) and maximum torque is 664 lb-ft (900 Nm). Those are the same figures as the new Continental GT, meaning Bentley has taken the improvements to the engine development from that car and simply shared it around.
The Bentayga Speed employs a new Sport mode which improves the engine and transmission response, and changes the parameters of the Bentley Dynamic Ride suspension. That system is tasked with actively controlling body roll while utilising a 48v electrical system. The suspension itself is firmer for the Speed, and the optional ceramic brakes are the biggest ever fitted to a Bentley. These brakes save around 5 kilograms each per corner, and are capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1000 degrees C, and provide a maximum braking toque of 6,000 Nm.
