2017 Fiat 124 Spider

After nearly 50 years since the introduction of the original 124 Spider, Fiat have brought back the nameplate with a new Italian roadster ready to grace the roads. Based on the Mazda MX-5 platform, the 124 Spider goes about things a little differently to that of the Mazda. To start, the engine is a turbocharged unit delivering more power and torque and the exterior body panels are quite different imbuing the 124 with very unique style in the world of open top roadsters.

Available with a six-speed manual transmission, the 124 Spider promises light responsive steering, greater stability while braking and turning, and a lightweight frame with a balanced weight distribution. How well it stacks up against the class leading MX-5 remains to be seen, however it’s nice to see a different interpretation on the open top formula.
