New Zealand based coach builder Tempero Coach and Motor Co. Ltd started out in 1994 on a journey to recreate 6 examples of the beautiful Jaguar XJ13. The XJ13 was a car produced as only 1 unit by Jaguar back in 1966 as a prototype to launch the brand back into international sports car racing. That original car never saw the race track after being crashed during production of a launch film promoting Jaguar's new V12 engine in 1971. Jaguar did however go on to rebuild that original, which now lives at the Jaguar Museum in Coventry, England.
Tempero's recreations were built from the original Jaguar plans, with a high level of attention paid to follow the same lines, methods, qualities and materials of the original construction. Featuring an aluminum body built on an aluminum monocoque, the XJ13 recreation uses the same modified E-type front suspension as the original. The Jaguar V12 engine uses a dry sump lubrication system and delivers 295 PS (217 kW) and 331 lb-ft (449 Nm) of torque at 5,272 rpm. The cars weight and dimensions have all been meticulously kept the same as the original, along with all the fixtures and fittings for the interior.
