Maserati's Ghibli executive sedan finally gets some bite, with a Ferrari built 572 horsepower V8. It only took seven years for Maserati to fulfill the promise of their mid-sized model, launching a proper performance version alongside the similarly equipped Quattroporte Trofeo. With the MC20 supercar set to revealed shortly after, Maserati are entering a renaissance period of once again producing high performance cars worthy of the Italian badge.
That all important engine is a 3.8L twin turbo found in the Ferrari Portofino and Roma, in a slightly different spec of course. Peak power has been rated at 572 hp at 6,750 rpm, with a peak torque figure of 730 Nm arriving between 2,250 and 5,250 rpm. An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission sends the power to the rear wheels where a mechanical limited-slip differential helps makes use of it all. With a slightly porky kerb weight of over 4,000 lbs the Ghibli Trofeo is no light weight, a factor seen in the 0-62 mph time of 4.3 seconds, which isn't slow, but lacks compared to some competitors. The top speed however does show off the mighty V8 under the hood, clocking in at 202 mph.
