Powered by Mazda's RENESIS rotary engine, the RX-8 was the continuation of the rotary powered coupes from the brand. The 2006 update saw three new colours become available called, Phantom Blue, Galaxy Grey and Snowflake White Pearl. The interior gained a lot of refinement with different finishes and materials used.
At the heart of the RX-8 is that 1.3L (654cc x 2) twin rotary engine, which spins up to 9,000 rpm and produces 177 kW of power at 8,200 rpm and 211 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission was a good companion to the peaky power delivery of the rotary, making it easier to operate in the power band of the fast spinning engine. The engine was rated to meet the Euro Stage III emission standards of the time.
