The GLA, which is essentially a pumped up A-Class, has received a make over with a refreshed look and more power. Customers can spec a more comfortable off road suspension that raises the car 30mm for more ground clearance. Mercedes are claiming improved aerodynamics for the new GLA, which should help fuel economy and cabin noise. Helping out on the safety front is Mercedes 'Active Brake Assist' that warns the driver if there is not sufficient distance to the vehicle in front and if required, delivers situation-appropriate braking.
The AMG version retains the snorting 2.0L 4 pot turbo, with power increased by 15 hp and torque up 24 Nm. Mated to the engine is a 7-speed DCT transmission offering closer ratios, this sends the power to the ground through AMGs 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
