Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO have announced their first sedan with claims of big batteries and long range. The NIO ET7 is set to rival the Tesla Model S in both size and driving range, an important comparison as in 2021 the Model S still sits as the benchmark in this segment for electric cars. Three different sized battery packs will be available for the ET7, starting at 70 kWh with 310 miles of range, then 100 kWh with 435 miles of range and finally topping out with a huge 150 kWh battery that should provide 621 miles of range. Now all those range totals are rated by the NEDC, so actual real world usage will most likely be less.
NIO's battery swapping system will also be incorporated into the ET7, meaning the whole pack can be changed over without too much hassle. All variants will be equipped with two electric motors situated on each axel producing a total power output of 644 hp with 850 Nm of torque. This will be the first car from NIO to feature autonomous driving technology that will make use of 12 ultrasonic sensors, long-range LiDAR sensors, eleven 8-megapixel cameras and Nvidia processors to power it all.
