2020 Skoda Octavia RS iV

Skoda have released their 4th generation Octavia RS, featuring an electric hybrid powertrain. Dubbed the RS iV, this is the first plug-in hybrid RS that will also be available with the regular 2.0L engine. For this model though, a smaller 1.4L 4 cylinder engine has been coupled with an 85 kW electric motor and a 13 kWh battery. The combined power output is close to that of the previous gen Octavia RS, clocking in at 245 PS (180 kW). Peak torque has risen thanks to the electric motor and is now rated at 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). Of course these numbers are only available if the battery has some charge, so once the electric assistance is gone everything drops down to solely the 1.4L engine.

Available only in front-wheel drive and with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the RS iV will travel 37 miles on pure electric power. Charging is done with a plug, and is required for getting full power and the most efficient operation, including the best fuel economy. Handy for those with a proper charging port at home, as they can enjoy the same levels of performance with lower running costs.
