Volkswagen have unveiled a more powerful Clubsport version of their 8th generation Golf GTI, taking it's place as the flagship Golf until the R version arrives. The engine remains the same EA888 2.0L unit as expected, but this time it's been tuned to develop an extra 55 hp bringing to new peak output to 296 hp. That means the new GTI Clubsport is 35 hp more powerful than the previous model and only 14 hp less than the limited edition Clubsport S. Torque has also risen with 400 Nm now being produced from 2,000 rpm and sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and on to an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Unfortunately VOlkswagen will not be offering a manual transmission option for this generation.
