Description

Ferrari’s first ever SUV has arrived in the form of the Purosangue, with V12 power and rear suicide doors. Set to rival the likes of the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX, Ferrari have taken their time entering the SUV market, a segment that has proven to be a sales winner for Lamborghini. And the sales are already looking strong for Ferrari, with orders having been taken for a good two years now.

With a mid-front-mounted engine and gearbox at the rear, the Purosangue is lower and wider than its competition. That sporty transaxle layout helps create an optimal weight distribution in the aim of delivering driving dynamics that stand up to Ferrari’s demands. For time being at least Ferrari have resisted the electrification or hybrid route and stuck with their well-rounded 6.5L V12. It develops 715 hp and 528 lb-ft of torque in this guise, which propels the Purosangue from 0 to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 173 mph.

As the first ever four-door, four-seater car in the Prancing Horse’s 75-year history, Ferrari didn’t just stick to the usual implementation. Instead, they have equipped the Purosangue with rear-opening ‘welcome’ doors, or suicide doors as most will know them. These enable easier access into the rear seats be creating a larger opening to step through. As far as I can tell, this is the first ever Ferrari to have such a feature.
