Hyundai has unveiled their new Kona N, expanding their N line-up with a hot compact SUV. Powering the show for the Kona N is the same ‘Theta’ 2.0L inline 4 turbo engine as found in the Hyundai i30 N. Peak power is rated at 276 hp with 289 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai have developed a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which is in use here, delivering the power to the front wheels. lovers of a good manual transmission will have to do without.
When compared with the i30 N the Kona N boasts a quicker 0-62 mph acceleration time, reaching the target 0.4 seconds faster after stopping the clock at 5.5 seconds. Some of the N goodies for the Kona include quick-ratio steering, eLSD and active dampers, wider track and a more rigid chassis to improve high-speed stability and reduce body roll.
