A large Maserati sedan with big power? Yes please! Meet the new Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo. Launched alongside the Ghibli Trofeo and revised Levante Trofeo, all three cars feature the same Ferrari sourced V8 engine developing 572 hp of power and 539 lb-ft of torque. Perhaps the biggest difference with the Ghibli Trofeo is the inclusion of an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, which compares favourably to the Ghibli’s old style mechanical unit.
The Trofeo doesn’t just get more power, Maserati have brought minor changes throughout the Quattroporte with tweaks to the exterior design, a retuned chassis set-up and updates to the interior. It’s good to see Maserati getting back to creating proper performance cars, as the Italian outfit should ideally have a few highly desirable cars in their line-up at all times. ALthough the somewhat understated looks of the Quattroporte and Ghibli do leave a bit to be desired in the styling department, getting the mechanical package right is a good start.
