Mazda has released a new customer race car ready for the TCR regulations, essentially a Mazda3 with 350 horsepower and big fender flares. Set to debut in the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, the Mazda 3 TCR has been homologated to run in all 36 TCR classes around the world. Whilst customer teams are able to buy the new 3, Mazda Motorsports will run their own factory backed team during the 2020 season, displaying a new stronger commitment to racing.

With a power output of around 350 PS (257 kW), the Mazda3 TCR has nearly doubled that of it’s street going brother, thanks to a turbocharged inline 4 engine tuned to TCR specifications. The large rear wing and flared arches certainly give the 3 a different look, on ethat actually fits the car nicely and teases what a hot Mazda3 could look like.

John Doonan, Director Mazda Motorsports said: “the Mazda3 TCR features the outstanding design and engineering that Mazda is known for, and because of that, it’s a fantastic foundation for our new TCR car. We have looked forward to returning to the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series for several years, and everyone at Mazda is very excited that we will do just that in 2020.”
