The Eliminator package for the Mercury Cougar first appeared in 1969 during the models third year of production. It made use of the 351 four-barrel Windsor V8 as standard with the 390 four-barrel V8 and Boss 302 both available as options. Exterior colours options included bright blue metallic, competition orange, and bright yellow.

Mercury gave the Eliminator a performance tuned suspension upgrade and handling package to make the car more capable on the road and track. Visual flare came from the blacked-out front grille, custom side stripes, front and rear spoilers and an optional Ram Air induction system. The interior fit-out included an upgraded 'Decor' trim, full gauge package including tachometer and high-back bucket seats. No convertibles were built with the Eliminator package during 1969 and 1970, after which the first generation was discontinued in favour of the newer second generation Mercury Cougar from 1971.
