1969 saw the introduction of the Trans Am Performance and Appearance Package for the Pontiac Firebird. Whilst not overly popular in it’s first year, the Trans Am would go on to become Pontiac’s performance flagship muscle car.

The name came from the Trans American racing series which was popular at the time, but the road car never competed in that competition. The base 6.6L V8 Firebird engine was still used but has either the Ram Air III of Ram Air IV induction kit installed. Power was rated at 335 hp with the IV utilising a longer-duration cam to bump that up to 345 hp.
