Audi have provided a bit more versatility to their RS line-up with the new RS5 Sportback, all the performance of the coupe with two more doors and opening rear hatch. This marks the first time Audi have given the A5 Sportback the RS treatment, and places the car in a segment of it's own, with none of it's rivals offering anything to directly compete with what it has to offer.
The RS5 Sportback uses the mechanicals as the regular RS5 Coupe, which means a twin turbocharged 2.9L V6 engine delivering a peak power output of 444 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive setup coupled with an 8-speed ZF transmission remains, as does the sport rear differential and adaptive dampers.
"The Audi RS5 Sportback is a completely new offer for our customers. Our progressive interpretation of a five-door high-performance coupe has neither a predecessor model nor a direct competitor, "says Michael-Julius Renz, managing director of Audi Sport GmbH, about the latest member of the RS family. "The Sportback offers the ultimate in functionality with maximum performance."
