Hyundai have entered the hot hatch market with a 201 hp beauty set to take on the Golf's and Civics of the world. Based on the all new Elantra, the GT is lower, wider and longer providing a more athletic look that hints at the more sporty nature of the car. Overall the design advances Hyundai into a more mature era, with added class to the look and feel of their cars.
The new Elantra is available in two options, with the 2.0L GT, and the more powerful 1.6L Turbo GT Sport. Both come with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch gear box. The car was developed with hundreds of laps around the Nürburgring Nordschleife track in Germany. This has resulted in a suspension setup that improves handling and durability.
"More space and features inside. More aggression and European flair outside. And more options under the hood. I'm particularly excited to showcase the GT Sport, a true hot hatch," said Scott Margason, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor America.
