Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign Giugiaro, the Alfa Romeo Brera Concept was first shown to the public at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show. The designer drew inspiration from the themes of old coachbuilders in their heydays, developing a concept with minimal shut lines and clean smooth surfaces. The sleek styling and sumptuous shape wowed viewers and was in instant hit, paving the way for a production model to be produced in 2005. Once the Brera hit the road, much of the original design remained, surviving with only minor tweaks.

The Brera concept car was fitted with a 4.0L Maserati 90 degree V8 engine producing 390 hp (290 kW), coupled to a 6-Speed Sequential transmission. 245 section tyres were fitted all round on large 20 inch wheels. The Brera would be produced in coupe and spider variants with a total of 34,024 units made by Alfa Romeo.
