2023 Caterham Project V

Caterham have unveiled their Project V concept, a lightweight EV sports car which could begin a new era for the UK brand. With the UK banning combustion engines from new car sales in 2030 and beyond, the future for small-volume sports car makers like Caterham looks bleak. They have built their identity on lightweight sports cars and any transition to electric powertrains could seriously degrade their image if not handled correctly. No pressure then.

Enter the Project V, a single motor, lightweight, rear-wheel drive coupe that Caterham hopes will keep them alive whilst complying with regulations. Set for production sometime in 2026, for now the Project V is a concept car that features a 268 hp electric motor positioned up front, a weight of 1,190 kilograms and 0-62 mph time of 4.5 seconds. The styling is very curvaceous with flowing, muscular haunches and a tapered rear end.
