Description
Volkswagen have given the compact SUV T-Roc some performance credentials, transplanting the turbocharged 4 cylinder engine from the Golf R to create the new Volkswagen T-Roc R. The EA888 engine is good for 300 PS (221 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, propelling the T-Roc R from 0-100 kph in 4.9 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than stablemate Audi SQ2. Based on the MQB platform, Volkswagen are only offering the one choice of transmission for buyers with a 7-speed DSG the chosen one.
Like other Volkswagen R cars the T-Roc R receives a more sporty appearance package. This includes new bumper designs with quad exhaust tips, lowered suspension, 18-inch wheels new seats and ‘R’ badging. Mechanically the T-Roc R gains a new dynamic steering system, bigger brakes and Akrapovič exhaust system. Also included is a driver mode system complete with ‘Race’ mode that utilises a launch-control function, that may be the deciding factor in achieving the sub 5 second acceleration time.
