Following on from the success the mk5 Golf GTI had in reviving the once beloved badge, Volkswagen has unveiled the mk6 to continue pushing the hot hatch formula forwards. Based off an all new chassis platform that does away with the overly complex nature of the previous generation, the new Golf GTI masterfully blends performance, practicality and everyday usability.
Improvements to the engine delivers better fuel economy and emissions, and of course more torque and power. Peak torque of 280 Nm is available at a very low 1,700 rpm and remaining constant until 5,200 rpm, helping the GTI cruise around town with ease. Maximum power hits in the 5,300 to 6,200 rpm range.
"We wanted a purposefully clear GTI design. A car that has power but also style,"Volkswagen AG's chief designer Walter deSilva.
