There’s always something about Alfa Romeos that pulls at the heart strings of any car enthusiast. The new Giulia certainly has the looks and power to tempt the strongest of wills to dip their toes in and see what it’s got.
After production stopped for the Alfa Romeo 159 in 2011, Alfa has taken 5 years to formulate a replacement car for the compact executive car segment. The Giulia represents to first of Alfa Romeo’s relaunch into a relevant auto maker that can go up against the best. A brand new “Giorgio” platform was developed to underpin the future line up of all longitudinal-engined, rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeos. The reveal of the Giulia was at the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese, on 24 June 2015, coinciding with the company’s 105th anniversary, and displaying the future direction of Alfa Romeo styling.
The Quadrifoglio features an all-aluminium, twin-turbocharged 90° V6 petrol engine, developed exclusively for the Quadrifoglio by Ferrari technicians. The numbers of 503 hp and 600 Nm of torque should allow for a fun car with plenty of grunt. The two turbochargers are single-scroll IHI designed integrated into the manifold, with water-charge air coolers to increase air density. Boost pressure maxes out at a fairly high 35 psi (2.4 bar).
All this power is sent to the rear wheels via a torque vectoring rear differential, able to send 100% of the torque to the left or right wheel as needed. The Quadrifoglio will be available with a ZF 6-speed manual transmission, and carbon ceramic rotors with six-pot front and four-pot rear callipers for the brakes.
