Description

Nissan have unveiled their unique “elevated sports sedan” concept at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, with a 2+1+2 seating arrangement. That seating may seem strange as even though the IMs Concept has a stretched interior space thanks to the vehicle’s extended wheelbase, there are not 3 rows of seats. Instead, Nissan say the rear seating architecture offers three-across seating, with the option to fold away the two side seats leaving an indulgent “Premier Seat” in the rear center. The front seats also feature a pivoting function.

“Advances in electric vehicle technology and autonomous driving have allowed our designers to break free of the platform and packaging rules that constrain traditional passenger vehicles, to create a completely new type of car,” said Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president for design at Nissan. “The IMs explores the limits of sedan design with an approach that elevates the category in both look and functionality.”

Making use of an electric powertrain, the Nissan IMs concept has 2 electric motors positioned in the front and rear of the car being fed by a large 115 kWh battery located in the floor between the two axles. The system generates a total of 490 PS (360 kW) of power and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Nissan say the estimated range is 380 miles on a single charge, which if delivered would place the production equivalent of the IMs at the pointy end of the EV market.
